REMINDER: Changes to Defamation Law Have Commenced
At the end of last year, we wrote about changes to NSW defamation laws that introduced new exemptions and defences for potentially defamatory content posted online. Our article discusses these changes in detail: Changes to Defamation Law: New Exemptions and Defences for the Digital Age.
These changes commenced on 1 July 2024 and are now in effect.
These changes aim to provide some protection against defamation claims for people and organisations that administer online forums, websites, and social media pages. However, to be able to rely on these new protections, administrators of these content pages need to take certain steps, such as providing an accessible means by which users can report potentially defamatory conduct.
