New Planning Laws for NSW – public consultation period extended

As previously reported, the exposure draft of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Amendment Bill 2017 (Amendment Bill)  is available for public consultation. It was released on 10 January 2017.

The Amendment Bill proposes to make a range of amendments to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 , some of which we discussed here.

The public consultation period, which was due to expire on 10 March 2017 has been extended by a further 3 weeks and will now close on Friday, 31 March 2017.

Given the NSW Cabinet Reshuffle which occurred in February of this year, the trajectory of the Amendment Bill remains to be seen. It is unclear whether the new Premier and Planning Minister will have the same enthusiasm for it as their predecessors did.

The exposure draft of the Amendment Bill can be viewed here.
